Our air conditioning services are of the highest standards. Many businesses offer a recharge where a system is simply 'topped up' with refrigerant, sometimes using a can of synthetic refrigerant. This is not a practice we are willing to perform. Every vehicle has the system contents tested, the A/C system has all of the refrigerant removed, a vacuum is placed on the system to remove moisture in the system and once we are satisfied that the system is leak free we will recharge with new refrigerant.
It is extremely important that all moisture is removed from the system. We always vacuum down for a minimum of 20 minutes but if the system requires longer then the we continue for as long as it takes. Whether the system vacuum takes 20 minutes or 2 hours, the re gas price stays the same.
The majority of vehicles on the road use a refrigerant called R134a. Due to the negative effects refrigerants can have on climate change manufacturers have had to change to a more envronmentally friendly refrigerant called R1234yf.
A vehicles air conditioning system will typically lose 10% to 15% of its refrigerant over a 12 month period. As refrigeration levels drop the system becomes less efficient.
During a re gas the following is undertaken.
Air conditioning systems are often overlooked when considering servicing a vehicle. To maximise the life of the components in an air conditioning system a regular re gas (12 to 18 months) should be considered. Moisture is the number 1 enemy of an air conditioning system and as air contains moisture and systems leak at a rate of 10% to 15% a year, putting a system under a good vacuum when doing a re gas is essential. If a typical re gas costs £60 per year you are protecting the system for just over £1 a week.
Air conditioning is not just for Summer months. When an air conditioning system is running, either warm or cold, it is removing moisture from the air. In the winter months the outside temperature makes the windscreen cold. When the air inside the vehicle hits the cold windscreen the moisture in the air condensates on it. By using you air conditioning the moisture is removed from the air in the same way it does in the summer.
If a system isn't working we can usually diagnose the fault and make recommendations for its repair. The customer is under no obligation to have the work carried out and no work is carried out without instruction.
It is recommended that in addition to a regular re gas, every two years a systems Filter / Dryer should be changed. This component filters the refrigerant and collects moisture. After 2 years it is full and cannot take on any more moisture and should be replaced.
If a system isn't run regularly the evaporator behind the dashboard can begin to give off bad odours. This is bacteria and fungi from the evaporator being blown into the cabin. An air con system odour removal can be done for £30.00
Vehicle interior odours such as pet odours, cigarettes, spilt milk can also be eliminated for £35.00
If more refrigerant than expected has been lost from a system between re gas intervals a leak stopper may be an option. They are an oil based additive which do not cause damage to the system compressor or any other vulnerable parts. Leak stoppers would be ineffective on large leaks, for example if a system had lost its refrigerant within 3 months of a re gas.
